How We Became Affianced.

In Deer Valley, Utah, on the Silver Lake Trail (August 5th, 2012)...

...we're just hiking and pausing at random spots...this one is a fave because you're ALMOST at the top, and you can finally see the whole Jordanelle resevoir in the background. WE JUMP!

 And then jump.

And keep climbing. And sweating. And mouth breathing.

And then we get to the top, and we're sitting on our rock, and Perry is saying things and I'm mildly aware that he might be leading up to something, but being incredibly sweaty and snotty anyway, I ask for a tissue. So he gets onto the ground and starts searching his backpack, then is really kneeling and also crying. Then I'm REALLY aware that something is going down, so I do the thing I do best, and sit down with him for a big hug. He's saying other nice things that I've blacked out, and finally asks me to STAND UP, because that's what happens when a man asks for your hand in marriage. He's on his knee, I'm sitting on a rock, and then we're ENGAGED! WHOA.

I'm crying, as evidenced by the red face and visible tears in this photo. Note: Gene (50 yo) and Nate (around 20) are the first to see us and they take this picture. Then they ask to take a picture of us so they can tell everyone the story.

Our parents arrive (via chairlift to the top), with large camera in tow, and start snapping away.

We toast with champagne!!!

And I'm forced to hold my hand up in that very awkward way that clearly says, "I have a new shiny thing on my finger!!!"

Then we take more photos and it's crazy.

Then we do a little angle switch up....

And finally decide it's time to head down the mountain for lunch. These are all the parents behind us. PAUL STEWART IS FREAKING OUT. He does not like heights, but he likes us.

We always do a shoe on the way down shot, so here's that with my new bling.

And after lunch, I'm a real goof and give myself a beautiful flower mustache.

And lastly, here's an actual nice picture of the ring. It was Perry's grandma's and is estimated at 90 - 120 years old...some work needs to be done, but it's pretty sweet!
And that's really it for now! More to come after our two week moratorium on planning is up.
